2009 S1 Unmoderated Scores

After going thorough all the your assignments, I have tabulated the un-moderated scores for all the marked assignments as illustrated in Figure 2-0. The overall performance of candidates in terms of grades, apart from a small percentage (4.8%) achieving a high-distinction (HD), majority of the candidates achieved grade ‘B’ being 43.5% and ‘A’ being 24.2%. Cumulatively, 91.9% candidates passed their assignment 1, while five (5) candidates were unable to get through with a ‘Fail (F)’ grade.

The assignment calls for specific items to be examine and most of the candidate did fairly well in task 2.1 (attitude & perceptions), task 2.3 (Group Dynamics) and task 3 (Recommendations). Task 2.2 (Motivation) is where most of you mange to scrape through. However, everyone of you need to seriously improve on your Critical Analysis, Comprehensiveness, Interpretation & Application of Theories, Research Effort (RESH) and your academic writing capability. The terminologies are described in the assignment marking criteria in the module introductory guidebook. Please remember that, this is a must for postgraduate level of studies.

My final word to all candidates… It has been a pleasure meeting with you guys and gals… and I wish everyone of you the success in your future undertaking….

Unmoderated Score Performance

After going thorough all the 193 assignments, I have tabulated the un-moderated scores for all the marked assignments as illustrated in Figure 1-0. As you can see majority of candidates hovers between 65% through 75% (‘B’ or ‘C’), some manage to score between 75%-85% (‘A’) and a handful with 85% and above (‘HD’). Unfortunately, 11 candidates did not manage to get through, that is falling below 50% mark, failing the assignment.

MGT5000 Module Discussions

Dear Candidates,

In view of the high number of students attending this module, the initial two groups of A and B has been split further. Those in Group A are intact while those in Group B has been broken into Group B and Group B1. Note: Only GROUP B!. Of course, there were some of you that favours switching group sessions for your own conveniences, but at the end of the day, please remember your own grouping to avoid messing up your own module discussion. The class schedule for Group A, Group B and Group B1 has been circulated to everyone of you.. and my advise is to stick to your group schedule. Module discussions for MGT 5000 this semester is illustrated below, note your grouping!

Due to differing progression of module discussions, below is a summary of module discussions as of Monday January 05,2009. Please note your grouping to avoid missing any of the discussions as experienced by some of you. Unfortunately, there is no replacement session for those who missed it. As the saying goes, tides wait for no man and women too !

My NEW YEAR message

Firstly, I would like to take the opportunity to wish every one of you a prosperous and a happy new year. It is my hope that you have reflected on your 2008 achievements and planned ahead for your 2009 resolutions. This New Year message is not meant to criticise anyone but merely to share few of my observations that I have noticed with candidates attending this module. I hope you will read it with an open-mind and take it upon yourself to reflect your situation in achieving your goals.

Please remember that you are attending a part-time distance learning POSTGRADUATE program. Meaning to say, the traditional way of learning such as discussing case studies over a full semester like those in a full time program will not happen. The ONUS is on YOU to comprehend and articulate the necessary theories and make the necessary inferences through action-learning.
There are those amongst you who made public statements that the lectures and lecture notes are not much of help in preparing your assignments, despite the availability of sample assignments and on-line forums; whilst some kept requesting for more notes on the subject discussed. This indirectly indicate that, there are still candidates who expect to be spoon-fed on every aspect of the learning. Please bear in mind that attending a part time distance learning postgraduate program can be challenging. You are expected to conduct your own research on the relevant theories, and creatively and critically make the necessary inferences as to the relevance and appropriateness to the assignments and your learning. There is need to shift your paradigm from waiting to be told, to preparing for the learning. SUCCESS FAVOURS THE PREPARED MIND!
There are also those who were not prepared to embrace the on-line learning. I have observed that some of you posting issues, concerns and queries without giving much thought and or search. Seeking through the frequently asked questions (FAQ) should be done first, and browsing through the discussion threads can also help! Should you could not find issues, concerns or queries after doing such activities, then post. You might not know that there are others who are experiencing the similar situations.
I have also noted that majority of you are well prepared for your learning. Despite your busy professional and personal schedules and commitments, you are able to find the balance. KUDOS to every one of you! May be you could share your experiences with your fellow classmates who were having difficulties in managing their time and priorities. Be kind and remember that knowledge and experiences’ sharing is a great way to improve and enhance your own learning.

I strongly suggest that each and everyone of you to visit my postgradute learning tip on postgraduate roller coaster for details and analyse where you are in planning ahead. I hope none of you thinking of diving into STAGE III C. Better still, download the illustration, print it and paste it to your wall as a constant reminder…
